Institute for Telecommunication Sciences
Abstract: The Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS) is the research and engineering laboratory of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), an agency of the Department of Commerce (DoC). ITS serves as a principal federal resource for the conduct of basic research on the nature of radio waves, supporting the Department’s strategic objective to foster a more innovative U.S. economy—one that is better at inventing, improving, and commercializing products. ITS is recognized as one of the world’s leading telecommunication research laboratories and its research results are widely disseminated to advance innovation that improves telecommunications technologies and network performance. ITS works with Government agencies and private organizations to explore, understand, and improve the use of telecommunications technologies and principles; investigate and invent new technologies; and overcome telecommunications challenges. Sponsored research contributes to NTIA’s overall program and supports the goals of the DOC. This Progress Report summarizes technical contributions made by ITS during Fiscal Year 2023 to both the public and private sectors.
