Abstract: An investigation of radar microwave relay outages resulting from excessive fading on the line-of-sight microwave relay system indicated that most were caused by multipath propagation which resulted in phase interference fading. Rain attenuation was also found to cause outages, but generally for shorter periods of time. Various methods of system improvement are discussed, including antenna, power, and receiver modifications, additional repeaters, and use of space diversity.
