Abstract: A solution is presented in this paper, with all of the variable subject to error, for the general leased squares porblem of determining consistent estimates of the parameters of a functional relationship which is expected to fit exactly the average of an infinite number of observations.A general method for weighting the data is presented, and examples are given to illustrate the effects of varying the statistical characteristics of the observed data.
