Abstract: A computer program was developed to calculate the power spectral density (PSD) and the fractional power containment bandwidth for various digital modulation techniques. The power containment capability was used to provide guidance for determination of necessary bandwidth in support of Annex J of the "NTIA Manual of Regulations and Procedures for Federal Radio Frequency Management." This report documents the models contained in the computer program and illustrates the models with various sample problems. The report also shows the verification of the computer program implementation. The digital modulation techniques that are presently included in the computer program are: phase shift keying (PSK) with non-return-to-zero modulation, quadrature amplitude modulation (OAM), frequency shift keying (FSK), minimum shift keying (MSK), bi-phase shift keying with raised cosine modulation, bi-phase shift keying with Manchester modulation.

Keywords: frequency shift keying (FSK); phase shift keying (PSK); quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM); minimum shift keying (MSK); bi-phase shift keying
