Abstract: Calculating the polarization angles of antennas and radio waves is necessary for analyzing the mutual interference when a linearly polarized emission is used in satellite communications. A method for calculating the polarization angle has been developed. It is based on several coordinate systems appropriate for representing the polarization angle and on a series of coordinate transformations and of projections of vectors in coordinate planes. It is applicable to a variety of cases of practical importance. Comparisons are made with some existing methods applicable to special cases, and some numerical examples are given. A computer subroutine package that implements the developed method is also presented.
