Performance Measurements of Two HF Operational Antennas at Chesapeake Beach, Maryland

Jean E. Adams

Abstract: The radiation patterns and power gains of two HF corner reflector array antennas --a two-element corner-reflector array antenna. rotatable in azimuth and operating from 10 to 27 MHz, and a 20-element cornerreflector array antenna mechanically fixed in azimuth but phase steerable. operating from 13.5 to 27 MHz--were measured by flying transmitters aboard a light aircraft around the test antennas, and recording the power received on them. The fixed antenna performed as expected with narrow smooth beams. The rotatable antenna performance was affected by scattering from the irregular terrain. resulting in irregular patterns.
